This episode is about Joe, a compulsive gambler who is escaping some tough mobsters, while trying to get enough money to pay them for his debts. He is a scientist searching for extraterrestrial life, hoping that he will find something out there that will help him.
The second half is about a scientist who is training monkeys and believes that one of them has picked up the ability to speak. This means nothing to the head scientist who wants to see how much pain a monkey can endure before it dies.
